Dear Curious Human,

Dance is more than movement to me. However, a lot of the dance content out there on social media focuses on just the movement. Of course we can appreciate dance in that way, but we can also appreciate the many layers beneath the surface. There’s history, stories, emotions, and so much more. Those layers are what really moves me.

 

Film is my tool that I am constantly learning and practicing in order to purposefully highlight dance. At the core of both dance and film is expression. That’s why I love them. How do I best express with film to highlight the expression of dance? Well, there’s not one right answer, but I do know it’s not just one static camera angle or a gimbal moving forward and backwards.

I envision a future filled with a greater appreciation for the art form of dance; where process is as recognized as the product, where vulnerability is as popular as viral dances, and where history is as important as dance moves.
