film

story, movement, sound

I didn't watch many movies growing up. Rather, it was short films that intrigued me into the art of filmmaking. To be able to convey a story in a short amount of time was fascinating. As a dancer, I used movement and music to express a feeling or a story. Experimenting with two of these storytelling mediums inspired me to push filmmaking to different levels.

dance

beyond the movement—a collection of dance films

Dance is more than just movement. It’s about the emotions and the stories that

drive it. My goal is to purposefully bridge the art forms of dance and film to highlight

these aspects. Dance isn’t only for dancers. It’s for those that want to feel, express and understand.

bà ngoai

narrative short film about my language barrier with my Grandma

- campus movie fest jury award

- silver tripod for best story

This was one of my biggest accomplishments. It wasn’t receiving the awards or the recognition. It was being able to tell a story that was so personal to me. It was being able to have my family involved, especially my Grandma. It allowed me to get closer to her, my culture, and my identity throughout the entire process. Learning more about my family and it’s history has taught me a lot about who I am. There’s still so much I have yet to question and discover, but I know for a fact that this curiosity will never die.

I challenge you, whoever is reading this to learn something new about your family’s history. Whether it’s about their journey to America or their relationship with their parents, your family has its own unique story and that’s so fricken beautiful. We can truly appreciate where we are now and who we’ve become by understanding where our family has been and who they’ve become.

charity dance film contest to support AAPI organizations

dance against
asian hate

In the midst of attacks that were happening in the Asian community, I wanted to support AAPI organizations not only through funding, but through the art of dance and film storytelling. This was something that I was hesitant on putting together because I felt like I needed to have a bigger platform or influence. But I’ve realized that if I can just encourage at least one single person to create art from their heart for a greater cause, then that is more than enough. One small ripple can go a long way.

mochata

baked mochi donuts & culturally inspired horchatas

My oldest brother started Mochata during the pandemic. I have been helping as a baker, content strategist, photography, designer, and filmmaker. Though videos make up a small fraction of the content we produce, I give it my best every time there's an opportunity. With my narrative film and dance background, I'm able to add storytelling and movement elements to what I'm shooting.
